Online Separation Anxiety

Training

Separation anxiety is one of the most challenging behavioural issues to live with — not just for your dog, but also for you.

Feeling unable to leave the house? Constantly planning your life around your dog? Worried about your dog's distress when you’re away? This can all be overwhelming!

We are here to help get your life back to normal and help teach your dog that they can be home alone - and feel safe!

Clinical behaviourist Kay Warnes (CSAT, CAB MSc) specialises in helping dogs overcome separation anxiety using a structured, evidence-based method that focuses on changing how your dog feels about being alone — not just how they behave.

A calm, structured path forward...

Separation anxiety is not a training issue — it’s a panic response. That means it requires a very specific, carefully guided process.

Through the CSAT (Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer) approach, we work step by step to help your dog build confidence and feel safe when left alone, at a pace they can cope with.

How it works

Before beginning a separation anxiety programme, all clients start with a behaviour consultation.

This ensures we:

  • Fully understand your dog’s behaviour and history

  • Identify any contributing factors

  • Rule out other underlying issues

  • Create a complete, tailored plan

If appropriate for your dog and if separation-related distress is confirmed, you will be guided onto our CSAT support programme as an add-on to your behaviour plan for the most intensive and structured support.

What’s included in the CSAT programme

Initial assessment

A 30-minute online session where we:

  • Explore your dog’s current behaviour when left alone

  • Define your goals

  • Review your home setup and routines

  • Set up your personalised tracking system

We will also conduct a live assessment to establish your dog’s baseline threshold, which forms the foundation of your training plan.

Ongoing monthly support

You’ll receive a fully customised plan each month, including:

  • Four personalised training “missions” per week

  • Weekly online reassessments

  • Data tracking spreadsheet

  • Ongoing guidance to ensure you’re progressing at the right pace

We assess progress closely, helping you navigate inevitable successes, plateaus and regressions with clarity and confidence.

What makes this approach different

  • Fully tailored to your individual dog

  • Based on behavioural science and emotional change

  • Structured, but flexible to your dog’s pace

  • High level of ongoing professional support

This is not a quick fix — but it is a proven, effective path to long-term change.

Your commitment

For this process to work, consistency is essential.

We require:

  • Commitment to completing the training missions

  • Avoiding absences beyond your dog’s current capability

Even a single overwhelming experience can slow progress, so we will support you in putting practical management strategies in place from the start.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is separation anxiety?

Separation anxiety is a panic-based response to being left alone. Dogs experiencing this are not misbehaving — they are in a state of distress that is outside of their control.

Will my dog grow out of it?

No — without the right intervention, separation anxiety typically worsens over time. Early and structured support is key.

Can it be treated?

Yes. With the correct approach, dogs can learn to feel safe when left alone. Progress takes time, but meaningful change is absolutely possible.

Why is this done online?

Separation anxiety training must reflect real-life conditions. Working remotely allows us to observe and train your dog in a natural environment, without interference, leading to more accurate assessments and faster progress.
