Dynamic Dog Assessments

"It is considered that 80% of referred behaviour cases involve some form of painful condition" (D. Mills, 2020)

Yet discomfort is often subtle, easily missed, or masked in a clinical setting.

If you’ve been feeling like there may be more going on with your dog, you’re not alone — and it’s often worth exploring.

Is your dog’s behaviour linked to discomfort or pain?

Many behaviour challenges — from reactivity and anxiety to reluctance to exercise — can be influenced by physical discomfort.

The difficulty is that:

  • Dogs often mask pain exceptionally well

  • Movement can change significantly in a vet environment

  • Short consultations don’t always capture day-to-day patterns

This is where a Dynamic Dog Assessment can make a real difference.

By assessing your dog’s gait, posture, and functional movement at home, we can build a much more accurate picture of their physical well-being — and how this may be impacting their behaviour.

Led by a Clinical Behaviourist

Your assessment is carried out by Kay Warnes (MSc CAB) — clinical behaviourist and certified Dynamic Dog Practitioner.

This means your dog’s behaviour and movement are never looked at in isolation. Instead, we take a fully integrated approach, combining behaviour science with biomechanical observation to support both welfare and training outcomes.

What to expect from your:

Dynamic Dog Assessment

Our process is structured, supportive, and designed to give your vet meaningful, usable insight.

The Deep Dive (90-minute consultation)

We start with a detailed online session, exploring your dog’s:

  • Behaviour and training history

  • Daily routine and lifestyle

  • Medical background

  • Your current concerns and goals

This allows us to build a complete, individual picture of your dog.

Guided Data Collection

This is where the real detail comes in.

You’ll be guided step-by-step to capture specific photos and videos of your dog’s movement and posture at home — where they are most relaxed and natural.

This includes:

  • Static posture (standing, sitting, lying)

  • Gait analysis (walking and trotting)

  • Transitions between positions

  • Everyday movement patterns

We make this simple and manageable — you’ll know exactly what to do.

In-Depth Gait & Movement Analysis

We carefully review all submitted material, assessing for:

  • Subtle asymmetries

  • Weight shifting or compensation

  • Postural imbalances

  • Movement inefficiencies

These small details can often be the missing piece in behaviour cases.

Veterinary Report

You’ll receive a comprehensive, professional report designed to be shared directly with your vet.

This includes:

  • Clear written findings

  • Photo and video evidence

  • Clinical observations

  • Recommendations for further investigation if needed

This helps your vet see what’s happening in your dog’s real, day-to-day movement — not just in the clinic.

Follow-Up Support (30 minutes)

We’ll talk everything through together, including:

  • What we’ve found

  • What it may mean for your dog

  • Practical next steps for management, training, and welfare

Who is this for?

A Dynamic Dog Assessment is ideal for dogs experiencing:

  • Reactivity, anxiety, or behavioural changes

  • Sensitivity to handling or touch

  • Reluctance to walk, run, jump, or use stairs

  • Changes in posture or movement

  • Training that feels “stuck” or inconsistent

  • Suspected pain-related behaviour

Why this matters

Behaviour doesn’t exist in isolation.

When we understand how your dog moves, we gain insight into how they feel — and that can completely change the way we approach their behaviour, training, and overall wellbeing.
