Clinical Behaviour Advice
Does your dog have a behavioural issue?
We are here to help guide and assist you....
Clinical behaviourist Kay Warnes (CAB MSc & CSAT) specialises in helping guardians as they work through their dog's behaviour. Kay does this by carefully implementing kind, science-based and effective management and training strategies based on positive reinforcement.
Behaviour problems can put an unnecessary strain on families, and even more so on the relationship with our dogs. Support is here.
*Health and behaviour are very closely linked. Therefore, to provide the best care for your dog, we need to make sure that all aspects of your dog's health have been considered before we start behavioural work. This can often mean working closely with your dog's vet.
"As high as 70% of behaviour issues are caused by discomfort or medical issues"
(McPeake et al. 2019)
What to expect from your:
Behaviour Consultation
Free 15-minute discovery call to make sure that we are the best choice for your dog's behavioural needs.
- If we are not, we will help refer you to someone we trust who specialises in that field.
- If we proceed, we will send you an assessment form and referral form for your vet to fill in.
2-3 hour behavioural consultation (online or in person, where safe), which we will address:
- history taking & initial assessment
- initial diagnosis & behavioural treatment plan
Full behavioural report & vet communication, an in-depth treatment plan with guided steps for you to go through together with Wanderdog, while also working in close collaboration with your vet
Support for 12 weeks to help you along the way, and to make sure that your dog's training stays on track, or is adjusted where necessary. This can include, where needed, up to 3 x online or in-person training sessions (up to 45 minutes) to work on any practical training.
Advice on what follow-on packages are required to help with your dog's specific behavioural concern. This could include - practical training in person sessions with our trainer Toni, a vet behaviourist check, a dynamic dog assessment of your dog's gait and movement, or CSAT mission writing to help with your dog's separation-related issues.

Price - €450
Our Behaviour Consultation Explained:
DISCOVERY CALL: We recommend a free 15-minute 'discovery' call where we will ask you a few short questions about your dog's behaviour. The purpose of this call is to better understand the issues you are experiencing. We may either agree to take your case or recommend the most appropriate specialist.

BOOKING FORMS: After your discovery call, we will send you a 'behavioural assessment form' for you to complete. We will also need information about your dog's medical history, preferably from your vet.

2-3 HOUR ONLINE OR IN-PERSON BEHAVIOURAL CONSULTATION:
- History taking & initial assessment
We will focus initially on gathering more information about your dog, your dog's history and behavioural issues based on information provided to us in your forms. This will help us to make the most appropriate behavioural diagnosis going forward and a treatment plan.
- Initial behavioural diagnosis & treatment plan
We will discuss an initial diagnosis and offer you a management and training plan to take forward.

BEHAVIOUR REPORTS: After your behaviour consultation, you will receive a client report that will highlight the main points discussed in the consultation within 3 working days. Within 2 weeks of your consultation, you will then receive a full and extensive behaviour report. This may also include sending a report to your dog's vet if required.
12 WEEKS SUPPORT: After your consultation, we won't leave you high and dry! You have 12 weeks of support via email, where you can contact us with any progression, regression or questions. The support is provided so we can make adjustments to your training and behaviour plan as necessary. Behaviour work can be emotionally difficult sometimes for dogs and humans alike, but we want to make sure that you won't feel alone in working to help your dog.

COMPLIMENTARY FOLLOW-UP SESSIONS: Within the support package, we can also organise up to 3 x 'complimentary' in-person or online support sessions (up to 45 minutes) where we can address any practical training skills needed.

Extra packages:
45 MINUTE - PRACTICAL TRAINING SESSION IN PERSON or ONLINE:
For those who want a little help with the practical training suggestions within the behaviour plan provided. This is a one-hour session that can be used within the 12-week support period. A trainer will demo and assist you in any necessary handling skills required.
ADD ON COST: €60

SEPARATION-RELATED ISSUES? CSAT MISSIONS:
If we suspect that your dog has separation-related issues, specifically home-alone time distress, we can work on this in two ways. We can provide you with the information to help you work on this on your own with your dog, OR we can offer an intensive program to create 5 x missions to complete each week. Each is based on your dog's previous day's progress. On the 5th mission of each week, we will meet online for 30 minutes to reassess your dog's progress.

ADD ON COST: €200 p/m during the behaviour support period (€250 for every month post this support period)

*The complimentary follow-up Zoom call must be used when requested within 12 weeks of support time (from the consult date). If unused or unwanted it is neither refundable nor transferable and will be lost. It is the responsibility of the guardian to organise dates with Wanderdog for these sessions.
*Behaviour modification can take varying levels of time to see changes. Some issues can be resolved or improved in just a few weeks, but other more complicated cases may take many months of dedication. In some cases, behaviour may never be fully resolved, but through appropriate management and understanding, living with this behaviour can be made more safe and manageable. We are here to support and guide you, but there are no quick fixes! The welfare and happiness of your dog, your family and public safety will always be our top priorities.
*Behaviour modification can only work if you are dedicated to the behaviour plan. We will be here to support and cheer you and your dog on, celebrate all of your successes and be there for you if anything doesn't go quite to plan.

*The difference between training and behaviour:
Training - includes teaching any new unknown skill (recall/ lead walking skills)
Behaviour - includes any established behaviours that need to be modified, usually caused by certain emotions (e.g. fear, anxiety or frustration resulting in aggression, destructive behaviours or reactivity) This can include but is not exclusive to: excessive barking, resource guarding, reactivity (barking/ lunging towards dogs/ people), separation anxiety, general anxiety, self-harm, repetitive behaviours like tail spinning/ light chasing etc)
